Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on Saturday submitted their replies in the court in Avenfield reference case.

The Supreme Court (SC) had sought replies from the Sharif family after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) accepted their bail application and released them.

In his reply, the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif took the stance that the accountability court had ruled against him in London flats case without having solid proofs. He added that the court could not get prove which showed that the flats were his property.

Nawaz further said that the court had ruled against him in the assets beyond means but didn’t inform how much these assets were. He said the court ruled against him without making comparison between his income and assets.

The defendant further said that the court ruling cannot be upheld without any proof. He said that the parameter of cancelation of bail is different from bail. He also said that out of a total 43 pages, ruling 32 pages are based on lawyer’s arguments. The high court has briefed reasons of his bail acceptance in 12 pages.

The IHC didn’t go deep into the ruling. He said the Islamabad High Court’s observation wasn’t final but a prospective. In such situation, keeping anyone in prison would be confiscation of basic rights of an individual.
