Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday laithe d foundation of a shelter home project for the down-and-out segments of society who spend nights on the streets under the open sky.

The PM accompanied by Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar inspected the construction site and was briefed about the project.

Addressing a ceremony, the premier said, "I want to make it clear that the government stands with the decision of the Supreme Court and there will be no compromise on it."

"If a government does not abide by decisions of the Supreme Court that country cannot survive," the premier asserted.

"The rule of law depends on following verdicts of the Supreme Court and if you do not follow the top court's decision then law finishes in the country," he added.

Expressing his resolve to make Pakistan a true welfare state, Imran Khan said the establishment of Shelter Home for homeless people in Lahore is the first step to this direction.

He said five sites have been allocated for establishing Shelter Homes for the homeless people, and he will also ask for setting up such shelters in Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Karachi.

The Prime Minister said the country has come out of the crisis of repayment of loans owing to the strenuous efforts of the government during the last two months, and now all efforts will be put in for initiating public-welfare projects.

He said the founder of Pakistan had envisioned a welfare Muslim state where all citizens can enjoy equal rights regardless of creed, ethnicity, race, language and gender.

He praised the performance of the chief minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and lauded the efforts of the LDA for the development of the provincial metropolis.

Imran Khan said PTI has made Usman Buzdar Chief Minister of Punjab so that the marginalized areas of southern Punjab could be brought at par with the developed areas.

Earlier, the PM was given a briefing by the Punjab government officials about the functioning and management of shelter homes.

The shelter building is aimed at restoring the self-respect of those people who spend the night under the open sky as well as broadening the circle of social responsibility by the state and citizens.

The project will also meet the requirements of the needy persons by establishing safe places for them.

It will also include construction of multi-purpose halls for imparting training and holding of public awareness programmes on vital social objectives.

A number of homeless people usually spend nights on footpaths or other places without a roof over their heads in different areas of Lahore city. 

These people also require the basic needs of life including the availability of facilities like washing clothes and staying safe at night, besides accessibility to the first aid. 

The project would address certain issues like restoration of self-respect of the shelterless people, meeting their requirements at these abodes, reducing the risks besides, expanding periphery of the social responsibilities of the state and citizens.

 The building would be based upon state of the art design with simplicity to improve its utility, besides availability of separate facilities to ensure the best usage of the place. 

 It will also include construction of multi-purpose halls for imparting training and holding of public awareness programmes on vital social objectives.
