ISLAMABAD Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday issued the letters, which he had written to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani wherein he had rejected both the names including Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah, proposed by the latter for the slot of Chairman NAB on grounds of their partisan status. After the issuance of these letters the claim of Government that it had taken the Opposition into confidence regarding the appointment of Chairman NAB was exposed. In the letter which the Leader of Opposition had written on September 24, the candidature of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah was rejected on the ground that Justice (Retd) Deedar was a political figure and he had twice elected MPA from Sindh on PPP ticket, so his appointment as Chairman NAB could not be justified. Earlier, the Prime Minister had proposed the name of Justice(Retd) Mukhtar Junejo but the Leader of Opposition in a letter addressed to Premier dated September 23 rejected the name on the ground that the person was having the political background and he had strong bondage with the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Later, the name of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah was proposed, which was also rejected on the similar grounds in the letter written in reply on September 24. In the letters addressed to PM, Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had referred to clause 13 of the Charter of Democracy wherein the leadership of both Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had agreed to establish an independent accountability setup in the country whose chairman would be appointed after the meaningful consultation of Prime Minister with Leader of Opposition and with the formal approval of a Parliamentary Committee comprising members from both ruling and opposition parties. Sources aware of the development informed TheNation that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had accepted the objections of Leader of Opposition on both the names proposed by him for the slot of Chairman NAB and sent Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar and Senator Mian Raza Rabbani to discuss the matter with the Leader of Opposition. In the meeting when both Syed Naveed Qamar and Mian Raza Rabbani had asked Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to propose some names but he refused to give any name and simply informed both the PPP leaders that they would approve any apolitical and impartial person proposed by the Government for the slot of Chairman NAB. Sources further said that in the meeting both the PPP leaders admitted that the objection raised by Chaudhry Nisar Ali on both the names proposed by the Premier Gilani was valid.
