ISLAMABAD - Aqeel Khan outplayed Jalil Khan 6-4, 6-1 to win the 27th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship final here at Islamabad Club on Sunday. The match lasted for one hour and 14 minutes. A sizeable crowd watched the match. Jalil started the match in a very bright mood and held on to his serve and in the fourth game of the first set managed to break Aqeel Khan serve. Aqeel was looking completely out of the first set as Jalil was piling pressure on elder brother. At one stage, Jalil was leading the first set at 3-1 and was 40-0 up but Aqeel made strong come back and first levelled the score at 3-all and then took 5-3 lead and won the set by 6-3. The first set lasted for almost 50 minutes. Aqeel Khan started the second set from where he left the first set and raced to get 2-0 lead. Jalil failed to hold on to his serve thus handing over a crucial 4-0 lead to Aqeel. Aqeel put more pressure on Jalil and raced to 5-0 lead but Jalil finally managed to break the duck in the second set and managed to hold on to his serve for the first time by taking the score to 1-5. Aqeel with the help of two aces raced to wrap up the set and the match with 6-4 and 6-1. The crowd supported both the players throughout the match. DIG Motorway Police Abbas Hussain Malik was the chief guest on the occasion, while former president PTF Syed Dilawar Abbas, ITA President Iftikhar Rashid, Tariq Murtaza, PTF President Kaleem Imam were also present at the prize distribution. Aqeel Khan was handed over a cash prize of Rs 55,000 and a trophy. Jalil Khan received Rs 35,000 along with the trophy. Saba Aziz, the winner of ladies singles event, received Rs 25000 and a trophy. M Abid, Under-18 Champion, was awarded Rs 10,000 along with the trophy. M Mudassar, champion of Under-14 event was awarded Rs 7000 and a trophy. Israr Gul/ Inamullah Khan winners of 45 Plus doubles event were awarded trophy and a special cash prize of Rs 10,000 on behalf of Islamabad tennis Association. Aqeel/ Jalil Khan winners of doubles event cash prize Rs 20,000 and trophies.
