LHC bars Pervaiz Elahi from public rally in Sahiwal

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday barred Senior Federal Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi from an election rally in Sahiwal. Pervaiz Elahi was to address the rally held in connection with PP-220 (Sahiwal-1) by-polls. The court also summoned the PML-Q candidate Pir Muzaffar Shah Khagga and District Police Officer (DPO) Sahiwal on October 15th. Rana Asad Advocate, brother of Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan, pleaded before the court that according to Election Commission's election rules no federal or provincial minister could attend a public gathering and Pervaiz Elahi's address to the rally would tantamount to use of government machinery and casting influence on polls and must be stopped. The LHC judge Nasir Saeed accepted the request and barred the minister from addressing the rally and inaugurating the gas supply scheme in the area.
