KARACHI - The majority of PPP leaders and lawmakers have termed the recent 'hawkish statements by PML-F, one of the coalition partner, political tactic to get lucrative ministries in the Sindh government. During informal chat with TheNation, a provincial minister as well as a number of legislators of Sindh Assembly of the ruling PPP believed that the recent statements by the chief of PML-F was aimed at pressuring the government so that the current ministries could be replaced with some lucrative departments which were under the charge of Chief Minister Qaim. A provincial minister of PPP on the condition of anonymity said that the PML-F wanted to take benefit of the situation after MQMs rejoining the government as it was eying on Works and Services Ministry, which was being kept by the CM after the resignation of former senior minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. The portfolio of Works and Services Department was kept by the provincial minister and provincial chief of PML-F Pir Saddaruddin Shah Rashdi during five year rule of Musharraf, a PPP lawmaker reminded. He added that though the ally party had not expressed the interest in the said portfolio but the reaction shown by the party indicated it. However, sources in the provincial authorities confirmed that the PPP had conveyed to PML-F Chief Pir Pagara that it would not take any step which could cause annoyance for the PML-F. The PPP leadership has also assured its angry coalition partners that it would not take unilateral decision over the redistribution of ministries and relinquishing the portfolios from one ally to another. Sources, however, said that the ruling party was working on a reasonable formula including allotting one major ministry with a few others, which they believed are less important.
