Small businesses feeling pressure

LAHORE (PR): Rising costs, declining orders and problems accessing finance are hitting confidence in the business prospects of Pakistan’s small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), according to new findings from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) in their Global Economic Conditions Survey (GECS) analysis.

GECS, the largest quarterly economic survey of accountants in the world, gauges the views of ACCA and IMA finance professionals working in small and medium sized businesses. ACCA and IMA looked at the GECS quarterly survey figures from quarter four 2011 to quarter two 2013 to assess how the world’s SME businesses were managing the changing economic conditions.

 

DIBPl opens West wharf branch

KARACHI (PR): Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan Limited (DIBPL) inaugurated its West wharf Branch in Karachi. The West Wharf Branch was inaugurated by Mohammed Salim Al Falasi and Obaid Al Shamsi, senior members of the Board of Directors’ of DIBPL. The CEO of DIBPL Junaid Ahmed and other members of DIBPL senior management were also present at the occasion. The Board members of DIBPL said that they were very pleased to inaugurate the branch and confirmed Dubai Islamic Bank’s commitment to the long term prosperity of Pakistan by opening more branches to spread Islamic Banking nationwide.

The CEO of DIBPL Junaid Ahmed said that the team in Pakistan is working very hard to ensure Islamic Banking is brought to every Pakistani’s doorstep. This new branch has tremendous business potential as it is located near the Karachi shipping port and will cater to a very large population of business and commercial customers in the area.

DIBPL is a subsidiary of Dubai Islamic Bank UAE, the world’s first Islamic Bank.

 

Music talent hunt by Fanta

 LAHORE (PR): Fanta Rocks’, the fun-filled music talent hunt that was launched earlier in the summer by Fanta, climaxed this week with the launch of the Fanta Rocks song, rendered beautifully by the winners of the talent hunt, singing together with iconic rock band, Noori. The music video of the song also features the 2 young winners of the talent hunt, Shaheer Naveed and Maria Fatima, who had emerged as winners from the talent hunt that extended to 200+ schools and reached out to an estimated 120,000+ schoolchildren between the ages of 12 and 17.The 2 winners first got the unique chance of composing the song together with Noori, and then shooting an exclusive music video with the band.

During the process they were also given the opportunity of living the life of rock stars and interacting with the band all the way at the Fanta Rock Station. With the release of the fun-filled and playful music video, Fanta has fulfilled the promise it made to all its followers. Following the release, the music video has immediately started gathering a strong fan following.  

 

UBL to help earthquake victims

KARACHI (PR): The recent earthquake in the area of Awaran in Balochistan has left innumerable homes devastated and livelihoods destroyed in its aftermath. It has adversely affected thousands of lives and left countless people homeless in the face of a harsh environment and a fast approaching winter. UBL as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility has decided to build a village in the affected area to provide much needed relief and shelter to the displaced. The bank has dedicated resources especially so that those who have lost their homes can be given new homes in the shortest possible time.

 

TDAP seminar on rice export

LAHORE (STAFF REPORTER):  Latest agri-techniques need to be opted by the farmers to yield quality rice crop and implement sustainable measures to mitigate losses which occur due to the non application of preventable devises.

Experts opined this while addressing a seminar on pre/post harvest technology and export marketing of rice arranged under the auspices of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) held at Bahawalnagar. In his inaugural address, TDAP officer Hasnain Haider said that rice is the third most valuable export of Pakistan and to give boost to this sector, TDAP is endeavoring to educate rice growers and its exporters by conducting seminars and workshops and focuses on facilitating them to upgrade international health, safety and quality certification, packaging and quarantine requirements.

Addressing the seminar, Sohail Rasheed, Agronomist highlighted different aspects related to seed treatment and selection, land preparation and crop establishment through seeding and transplanting.

He mentioned various threats that must be countered in order to have a successful harvest. Shahbaz Mustafa, Research Officer spoke on the threats and methods to counter rice pests and diseases. He proposed methods to counter these diseases including pre-sowing seed treatment, proper water management and copper based supplements to standing crops.

 

Samsung launches Galaxy Note 3 + Gear with Ufone

LAHORE (PR): Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its new products along with Ufone. The event was attended by the higher management of Samsung, Ufone and Samsung’s distributors along with media representatives. Along with the devices, Samsung also announced a bundle offer from Ufone for Galaxy Note 3 users, comprising of free minutes, text messages and internet. The event included speeches from representatives of Samsung and Ufone along with product presentations and product experience.
