NBP Gold Cup Hockey in full swing

LAHORE - National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Pakistan Navy and Wapda notched up triumphs in the NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament after winning their respective matches here at the National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.
Bankers overwhelmed Port Qasim 3-0 before being 1-0 and struck much improved in the following session.  Zohaib scored the first goal for the bank in the 32nd minute (FG) while Naeem added second in the 40th minute and captain Sabtain managed another in the 53rd minute to help the team score an easy 3-0 win.
Navy routed PAF 5-1 and wrapped up the first half 2-1. Seamen posed real danger in the second half with persistent penetration and collective moves aided by their right and left flanks. Mohsin Sabir slammed two goals for the winners while Babar Hussain, M Sabir and Ali Sher added one goal each. The only PAF goal came from Mushtaq in the 24th minute.  Wapda defeated Customs 3-1 in the last match of the day. The electricity men were leading the first half 2-0 with one goal each from Sohail Abbas and captain M Waqas Sharif. Customs bounced back in the second half and netted a goal through Mubashar in the 55th minute to make it 2-1 but Wapda’s Asad smashed another goal for his team to finish the match 3-1.
