ISLAMABAD - Minister of state for IT Anusha Rahman yesterday convened a meeting with all stakeholders on technical requirements and solutions for electronic voting.
The mandate was given to the minister by the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms.
According to a handout, live demonstrations of electronic voting machines and biometric devices manufactured by different producers were seen by the participants. It was decided that a formal full scale demonstration will be held next week.
After consultation with stakeholders a consolidated report will be presented to the Parliamentary Committee. ECP will take all necessary actions to make provisions in the electoral process on the recommendations approved by the parliamentary Committee.
Anusha Rehman said that the electoral process can be made more transparent by using electronic voting machines (EVMs).
She said that they are looking for a system which is practical, reliable, cost effectiveness, simple and equipped with latest technical solutions.
