LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government is setting up 1180 megawatt gas based Bhikki power plant in Sheikhupura from its own resources.

He expressed these views while addressing the stone laying ceremony of gas based Bhikki Power Plant at Bhikki Sheikhupura, today. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, federal and provincial ministers, MPs, intellectuals, columnists, energy experts, officials of companies working on the project and a large number of people were present on the occasion.

He said that Bhikki power plant will be completed in the end of 2017 and 1180 megawatt electricity will be added to national grid. He said that hundred percent investment in this project has been made by Punjab government.

The chief minister said that although Punjab government made investment on this project but this national project would supply electricity to the whole country. He said that this is not project of Punjab but of entire Pakistan and under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, this project will help in strengthening the efforts for removing darkness of loadshedding and eliminating energy crisis.

The chief minister requested those having expertise in telling lie that, for God’s sake, they should stop opposing public welfare projects and speak truth as opposing public projects is, in fact, enmity with poor Pakistanis.

He said that some political parties through media have been making propaganda against China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Sometime they term CPEC heavy loans and some time false projects but work has been started speedily on the projects under CPEC and those making propaganda have been silenced.

Shahbaz Sharif said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, 110 billion rupees of the poor nation have been saved in 3600 megawatt gas based power projects which is unprecedented in the history of the country.

The chief minister said that the decision which was taken jointly by federal government, Pak army and political leaders under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for eliminating terrorism has started yielding positive results.

He said that operation Zarb-e-Azb has hit hard the terrorists. He said that Pak army, police, security institutions and people have rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

He said that work is being carried out on energy projects in various parts of the country including 1320 megawatt coal based projects in Sahiwal, solar project in Bahawalpur, Port Qasim and Thar.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the economic package of billions of dollars by China reflects the confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and love with the people of Pakistan by Chinese leadership and government.

He said that entire process of Bhikki power plant has been completed in a very transparent manner. He said that transparency in bidding process of this project was unprecedented in the history of the country. He said it is worth mentioning that Harbon Electric Company of China and General Electric Company had jointly completed Guddu Power Project.

He said that Nepra has also fixed eight lakh dollars per megawatt cost for gas power plant but Punjab government has acquired the rate of four lakh sixty six thousand dollar per megawatt which is a great achievement.

He said that leading companies of the world including General Electric, Harbon, Siemens, Mitsubishi, China Power, Hyundai and INKA of Turkey took part in the bidding process for Bhikki Power Plant which has been completed in a very transparent manner upon which he congratulates Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He said that had efforts been made in this manner during last sixty eight years Pakistan would not have been facing this situation.

He expressed the hope that thousands of megawatts of more electricity will be generated in the country during next two and a half years.
