Rawalpindi  - A seminar and awareness walk were organised by the Poultry Research Institute to mark the World Egg Day here yesterday.

The event was participated by veterinary doctors, representatives of educational institutions, civil society and a large of number of students.

 Different competitions, including egg spoon race, egg-based cooking recipes demonstration and speech contests were held on the occasion. The students participated enthusiastically in all contests. Addressing the participants, Khalid Saleem Malik, Central Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association said that eggs contained protein, which was essential requirement of human body and everybody must take this nutritional food item in his daily diet without any apprehension. He said poultry sector was playing pivotal role to meet the requirements of chicken and eggs in the country. 

Director Poultry Research Institute Rawalpindi Dr Abdur Rehman said that there was no harm to eat egg in every season and age. He also refuted all misconceptions about eating eggs and said it was very health food item, which was being used worldwide. The ex-Director General Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab and Secretary Pakistan Poultry Association Dr Bashir Mehmood Bhatti also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the nutritional value of eggs. Executive District Officer Agriculture Dr Shahid Sajad Asghar addressing the ceremony said that nutritionists always prefer eating of eggs to overcome protein deficiency and admired the efforts of organising a mega event on World Egg Day.  

 Later, chief guest awarded prizes to the winners of different events and free boiled eggs were served to all participants.
