LAHORE - Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Senator Sirajul Haq has called upon the government to take the parliament in confidence regarding approaching the IMF.

In a statement issued from here, he said the PTI had come to power with the assurance that it would not seek further loans and would instead adopt the path of self reliance. However, he said the announcement by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the finance minister of seeking more loans from the IMF had disappointed the nation.

The JI chief condemned the police action against the Peshawar University students protesting against four time increase in the varsity fees. He said the police behavior was contrary to PTI assurance of promoting education and making it inexpensive. He called for making public the report of the incident.

Sirajul Haq noted that after the conviction of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama leaks case, there was total silence and no action had been taken against the other 436 persons named in the Panama leaks. He said that accountability must be transparent and across the board.

Continuing, the JI chief said that the decision to make the FATA a part of Khyber P. should be implemented fully. He said that merely naming the Political Agent as Deputy Commission and the Assistant Political Agent as Assistant Commissioner would neither bring any change nor solve the problems of the tribal people.

He demanded a reasonable package for the development of the erstwhile tribal areas and to remove their deprivations.  He said the tribal areas had been badly hit by the military operations and heavy funds were needed to provide basic facilities of education, health, etc.
