Peshawar   -   For the first time in the provincial capital, Institute of Kidney Diseases has started surgeries to remove cancer tumours from kidneys.

A medical expert from the institute said that in the past, an entire cancer-affected kidney was removed, but now our surgeries remove only the cancer tumour, not the entire kidney.

He said that had this surgery not been introduced here, patients would have to remove an entire kidney and then struggle for dialysis and kidney transplant. He claimed that the institute is offering kidney surgery for free, otherwise it might cost up to Rs500,000.

On the other hand, another senior nephrologist told The Nation on condition of anonymity that kidney tumour surgeries or nephron repairing is a very difficult task.

“It’s not that simple. It will require years to prove if these surgeries are successful in our region or not. Mostly the patients may suffer recurrence and their condition can complicate again, after the surgeries,” he added.
