ISLAMABAD- A special chartered flight on Tuesday brought 258 Pakistanis, who were stranded in Libya, back to the country.

According to Foreign Office, this has been the 6th such flight since August 13, 2014 organised for evacuating thousands of stranded Pakistanis from Libya. So far a total of 1727 Pakistanis have been airlifted to Pakistan. Around 1,800 destitute Pakistanis, presently housed in relief camps set up by the Pakistan embassy in Tripoli, are still awaiting evacuation.

Frequent flights are planned during the coming week so as to ensure that the stranded Pakistanis being supported in emergency accommodation are brought back to their homes at the earliest as per prime minister’s directive.

In the meanwhile, all required support is being provided to Pakistani nationals in Libya by Pakistan embassy in Tripoli, which is fully functional despite the ongoing instability and violence in the country.
