ISLAMABAD - Samir Iftikhar took giant stride towards booking a berth in the Pakistan Davis Cup squad, as he beat No 3 Yasir Khan in straight sets in the trial match played in Bangkok on Tuesday. Samir played well and never allowed Yasir any chance to settle down in the match. He started the match on a very high note, losing just one game in the first set to take it 6-1. He went onto take the second set 6-3 to put firm grip regarding his chances to make it into the final squad. It was very much expected synthetic surface suits Samir's style of play and it would be too tough to beat him. Samir will take on M Abid in the second and last practice match today (Wednesday). It would be left on Abid and Yaisr's match to decide, who is going to make it into the fourth and final place on offer.–Staff Reporter
