BAHAWALPUR - The Health Department has devised an effective mechanism to eliminate illegal transplantation of human organs from Bahawalpur Division.
Health Services Director Dr Khalid stated in a meeting held to review progress on various measures taken by the department regarding performance of Punjab Human Organs Transplant Authority in the division.
On the occasion, he informed that special teams, constituted at district and tehsil level, have been tasked with taking stern action against illegal transplantation of human organs. “As a result of effective and vigorous monitoring by the teams, no case regarding illegal human organs transplantation has been reported in three districts of the division,” he claimed. Divisional Commissioner Saqib Zafar also urged the health officials to play their role for implementation of the directives to protect human lives. “Zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal transplantation of human organs should be adopted across the division,” the commissioner noted.
Later, chairing a meeting on Safe Blood Transfusion, he tasked the health authorities with sealing all the illegal blood banks being run in the division.
