Former federal minister for interior Ahsan Iqbal on Monday has said that PML-N government added 12000 megawatts of electricity to the system without asking for charity.
“We added a 12000 MW of electricity to the system but never begged for charity”, he said this while talking to media outside the Lahore High Court (LHC).
He questioned the sky towering claims of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) saying “where are the promises that were made with the public”.
Criticizing the approach of PTI govt to build dams through the charity he said “dams can’t be built through charity, Diamer Bhasha Dam needs Rs1400 billion for completion, yet we have collected only 2 billion so far.
“Until and unless we get the support of international institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, we can’t build dams”.
He said if the previous government hadn’t prioritized energy sector, today we might have been going through a civil-war-like situation.
“Governments can’t be run through charity money, the government should strengthen the economy so that the country could prosper” he added.
The PML-N leader urged the government to seek help from major financers to realize mega projects.
Responding to query, he said that “we will not resort on lockdowns and sit-ins”
He also expressed gratitude over LHC’s pardon and said, “the court has pardoned for my mistakes, next time I will remain cautious”.
