LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the menace of narcotics is spreading like cancer in the society and effective steps are needed to save young generation from this menace for a healthy society. He also underscored the need to eliminate narcotics from Pakistan and for this, the Punjab government will work jointly with the federal government for this noble cause. He was speaking at a meeting held at the Chief Ministers Secretariat on Saturday to weed out the scourge of narcotics from Lahore. The CM was briefed by Secretary Anti-Narcotics Control Division and Director General Anti Narcotics Force. Provincial Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, the Chief Secretary, IGP, Home Secretary and Secretary Excise and Secretary Education, Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Health, DCO Lahore and SSP (Operations) were also present on the occasion. Shahbaz Sharif said rooting out narcotics was an important issue and collective efforts were needed for a drug-free country. He lauded the comprehensive briefing given by the Secretary Anti-Narcotics Control Division Tariq Khosa and said that Punjab Government along with federal government and Anti Narcotics Control Division would make all-out efforts for making the province drug-free. The CM said it was need of the hour that no stone should be left unturned to make the society drug free and we should devote ourselves for this noble cause. He directed the Chief Secretary to present a report within seven days regarding establishment of an anti-narcotics task force and other matters in the light of briefing given by the Secretary Anti-Narcotics Control Division. Earlier, Secretary Anti-Narcotics Control Division, while giving briefing to the CM, said that a new policy was being chalked out on the direction of the Prime Minister to root out narcotics from the society and a consultation process was under way with other provinces in this connection. Highlighting different aspects of the proposed anti-drug policy, he said it a big challenge to root out narcotics from the society and stressed the need for coordinated efforts in this regard. Participants of the meeting also expressed their opinion for eliminating narcotics from the society.
