PESHAWAR (Agencies) In the biggest offensive launched so far by the security forces, at least 124 militants were killed and more than 70 injured on Saturday in different parts of Fata including Khyber, Orakzai and South Waziristan. The huge loss to the extremists is a result of intensified military operation in Orakzai, Kurram and Khyber agencies, adjacent to each other and thus providing the opportunity of free movement to the militants. According to media reports, the security forces backed by gunship helicopters targeted a gathering in a remote area of Tehsil Jamrud, Khyber Agency, killing more than 60 militants and injuring 70 others. Lashkar-e-Islam and Ansar-ul-Islam are the two prominent militant outfits are fighting against each other on sectarian lines, and also against the security forces in Khyber Agency. On the other hand, official sources say the troops, during a search operation in Bezotkhel and Baizoti areas of Orakzai Agency, found 54 dead bodies of militants. It is speculated that they were killed during the clash on Friday, which erupted as they tried to infiltrate into Orakzai from the nearby Khyber Agency to recapture a strategic checkpoint. The security forces are claiming to regain control 90 per cent of the area during the massive military operation launched in Orakzai Agency on 25th of last month during which around 250 militants are dead and 100 injured. During the operation, eight personnel of security forces, including Lt Col Anwar Abbas have also embraced martyrdom. More than 80 per cent local residents have left the agency and moved to Hangu and Kohat after the security forces warned them to vacate the region. It is pertinent to recall that a large number of militants after fleeing the South Waziristan relocated themselves in Orakzai months before the military operation was started in the stronghold of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Meanwhile, a private TV channel has reported the killing of another 10 Extremists in South Waziristan after the security forces traded heavy fire in Sararoga. During the gun battle, a personnel of security forces also embraced martyrdom.
