ISLAMABAD The qualifying rounds of the 8th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Mens and WISPA Squash Championships will start today (Sunday) here at Mushaf Squash Complex in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex. President Punjab Squash Association (PSA), Malik Amjad Noon, told reporters in a press conference in Rawalpindi that the main draw would commence from April 13, 2010 at the same venue. Chief Executive Askari Bank will grace the opening ceremony as the chief guest, he added. Amjad further said that the final would be played on April 16. Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will likely to be chief guest on the occasion. However, he has to confirm his availability, he maintained. Mens event is pursuing prize money of Rs 500,000 while Womens International Squash Players Association (WISPA) fixture has $2000 prize money. Aamir Atlas Khan will defend his title. All top national lads are taking part in the competition to win the top honour, Malik Amjid asserted. He said that Maria Toor was the top player in WISPA event. We will provide full security to our national players during the championship. However, we were willing to hold mens event under the banner of Professional Squash Association (PSA) but unfortunately we were not allowed, he said.
