LAHORE – A torture incident resulted into the death of an unborn baby shortly after a man thrashed his pregnant wife over a family dispute in Factory Area police limits on Tuesday.
Police investigators said accused namely Sadiq Hussain of Qadri Colony tortured his wife Salma Shahzadi over a petty issue. As a result of which, the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced that her baby had died early on Tuesday, perhaps when the man thrashed her. The condition of the woman was also told to be in danger till filing of this report. However, the case has been lodged against her husband with no arrest so far. Further investigations are underway.
Valuables gutted: Batteries and household items were gutted to ashes when fire erupted in a house situated in Sanda police area on Tuesday.
A family member said fire broke out in a house owned by one Basharat Ali of Bahadar Shah Area and furniture and other valuables were completely turned into ashes. Rescue 1122 fire squad, however, reached the spot and controlled it within no time. No loss of life was reported. 
Search operation launched: City police launched search operation in various parts of the provincial capital and took several suspects into custody, police sources said on Tuesday night.
According to the police, most of the arrested suspects were Afghan nationals. The search operation has been launched in order to control rising incidents of armed robberies, auto-lifting and other heinous crimes. The police later released most of the suspects after checking of their pervious records, ID cards, and other necessary documents.
