LAHORE - Renowned British politician and first Muslim member of the British House of Lords, Lord Nazir Ahmed has said that Pakistan needs evolution instead of a revolution. He was speaking at a seminar on “International Scenario, Pakistan and our Responsibilities” organised by the Punjab University Directorate of Student Affairs here on Tuesday.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Director Students Affairs Chaudhry Iftikhar, senior faculty members and a large number of students attended the seminar.
Lord Nazir said Pakistan could become one of the best countries in the world, as it possessed huge reservoirs of natural riches from gold to coal and there was no lack of talent but true leadership was required to achieve that goal.
He said that the Western economies were touching their lowest in the last ten years and the US had receded into debt of trillions of dollars.
He said that when the conditions worsen, responsibility had to be put on somebody’s shoulder and Iran was likely take the brunt.
The war, he said, was not only dangerous for the Western countries but would also fan sectarian violence in the Muslim countries. Lord Nazir said that he was favour of denuclearisation of the region but it should start with Israel and if Iran was attacked, Muslim nation should unite against these powers.
