RAWALPINDI - A three-day book fair was started here on Tuesday at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) with an aim to provide an opportunity to students and teachers to buy books of their interest at one place and promote the book reading habit.
The book fair was inaugurated by PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Muhammad Munir as a chief guest while other faculty members and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
VC Prof Dr Munir said that such fairs have great significance, as in this age of computer; habit of book reading was dying fast. Due to the internet non-availability and high prices of books, such book fairs should be made regular feature at every educational institution, he said.
On the first day, a large number of students visited the book fair and bought books of their interest on Agriculture, natural, social, and management sciences, information technology and other topics. Books from India, European and American authors were also available for sale.
It is pertinent to mention here that the book fair has been organized by the PMAS-AAUR library, more than 20 well-known national booksellers were exhibiting their publications and around 30,000 books are being displayed in the fair. The book fair will continue till April 12.
