Quetta police meet SC ‘missing’ target

QUETTA - Following Supreme Court’s strict orders, the police on Tuesday recovered three remaining persons, out of seven, who had gone missing on March 1.Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, while hearing a petition regarding the deteriorating law and order and human rights situation in Balochistan, had directed the IG of Police and other officers to recover the seven missing persons who had been picked up from the Sariab area of Quetta on March 1, 2012.However, police produced four missing persons before the Chief Justice on the very next day, April 6. The court then ordered the police to recover the remaining three missing persons, with a strong warning of taking action against concerned police officials if the missing persons were not recovered by April 10. Police said that they have recovered the remaining three persons namely, Gul Mir, Mir Jan and Amir Khan. However, the relatives of missing persons said they had been informed by police that three missing persons of Marri tribe had been recovered and they were asked to reach Civil Lines Police Station. It is pertinent to mention here that the relatives of the seven missing persons have recorded their statements before the Supreme Court. Four people, including Hazar Khan, Mazar Khan, Malik Sher and Javed were earlier produced before the Supreme Court.Expressing anger over the authorities’ inaction regarding missing persons’ issue, the Supreme Court on Thursday last observed: “Balochistan IGP should take action against ministers involved in the incidents of kidnapping for ransom in accordance with the law… Arrest all ministers (allegedly) involved in kidnapping for ransom by evening and everything will be fine,” he remarked.The court warned that if the seven people abducted from Sariab Road Quetta were not produced before the court, all relevant police officers including Balochistan IGP Rao Amin Hashim would be suspended.The bench also ordered that an investigation should be conducted into incidents of all dead bodies recovered from Balochistan and the challan be submitted in the court within stipulated period.
