KARACHI – The Sufi literature fosters the spirit of humanity, brotherhood as well as peace in the society.
This was pointed out by the speakers at a conference organised here on Tuesday.
The moot was held under the auspices of the Department of Sindhi of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The theme of the conference was ‘The significance of poetry of Sufi poets in the present day era’. The Registrar of FUUAST, Prof. Dr. Qamar- ul- Haq, said that there was universality in the Sufism and Sufi poetry.
He said that the Sufi literature fosters the spirit of humanity, tolerance and brotherhood as well as peace in the society.
Dr. Inayat Hussain Leghari said that the conference was aimed at spreading the message of Sufism and the Sufi literature.
Dr. Sulaiman D. Muhammad and Prof. Dr. Seemi Naghmana said that the younger generation should be apprised of the literature and works of the Sufis.
Dr. Nawaz Ali Shauq, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir also expressed their views. The conference was also attended by Prof. Dr. Tausif Ahmed Khan, and Prof. Nasir Abbas.
KMC admin stresses need of effective fumigation campaign: The Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Muhammad Hussain Syed, has stressed the need for effective fumigation campaign in the metropolis.
He said on Tuesday that all possible steps be taken to save the city from malaria and dengue fever.
Stern action will be taken against the officers and subordinate staff who would indulge in any negligence or carelessness during the fumigation campaign.
The Administrator was talking to Senior Director Health Services, Dr. Shoukat Zaman, and other officers.
He said that besides ensuring timely completion of development projects in the city, it was also our duty to take necessary measures for saving the people from various diseases like malaria and dengue fever.
The Administrator said that in this connection we have to ensure continuation of performing insecticide spray in an effective manner.
He also directed the Health Department to pay special attention to the low lying areas and the localities adjoining the rivers and drains where possibilities of breeding of larva and other germs were rife.
The Administrator said the fumigation staff should also use hand spray pumps besides regular spray machinery in the narrow lanes and streets where it was difficult to perform fumigation through the spray van.
Senior Director Health Services, Dr. Shoukat Zaman, on this occasion informed the Administrator about the phase wise fumigation campaign in the city.
He said the present campaign which was launched on April 7 would cover the whole city and this process will carry on till the elimination of any chances of spread of harmful germs.
Administrator said better sanitation condition and instant lifting of garbage and domestic waste could help in maintaining germs-free and healthy environment in the city therefore the municipal staff must ensure proper cleaning of roads and streets and fumigation on regular basis so that the city could be made clean and saved from harmful germs.
