Vitality of forests highlighted


MARDAN - A one-day workshop on “Deforestation and its impacts on environment” was held at Adul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
Minister for Environment Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wajid Ali Khan chaired the meeting. Prof Dr. Ihsan Ali Vice Chancellor AWKUM, Prof Sher Ali Khan Registrar, Dr Zahoor ul Haq, Dean of Arts, Dr. Yasmeen Nawaz, Dean of Sciences, Dr. Said Khan Khalil and all heads of the Departments and Secretary Forest Syed Bacha Bokhari were also present on the occasion.
In his speech, the Minister for Environment Wajid Ali Khan said that forests are our precious assets and its protection is our fundamental obligation. He expressed the desire that PhD scholars of AWKUM shall help and cooperate with the Forest Ministry of Environment. The minister directed Secretary Environment to work a memorandum of mutual cooperation with AWKUM. He expressed with hope that the mutual joint venture will benefit both the parties. Vice Chancellor AWKUM, Prof Dr. Ihsan Ali, in his speech on the occasion said that scientific measurement is required to check deforestation.
He assured the minister of the possible help in the field of research. In the end Wajid Ali Khan inaugurated the forestation by planting a tree at AWKUM.
