KARACHI – The Sindh Food Department will start wheat procurement “Crop-2012” from April 15 in Sukkur and Larkana regions.

Wheat procurement in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas regions is already in progress from April 8.

The department has opened 75 wheat procurement centres in Hyderabad region and 88 in Mirpurkhas region along with all necessary arrangements, such as posting of staff and attachments of bank booths. Jute bags (bardana) required for the purpose have already been dispatched to all wheat procurement centres.

Meanwhile, wheat procurement in Sukkur and Larkana regions will commence from April 15. The department has opened 161 wheat procurement centres in Sukkur region and 64 in Larkana region.

According to the Food Department, the reasons cited for extension in commencement of the wheat procurement drive this year are moisture in wheat crop that may result into losses in terms of quality and quantity if stored for a long period.
