The ‘one hit wonder’ Taher Shah is back and everyone is taken aback.

His current song Angel has taken everyone by a storm just like his previous video Eye to Eye.

The reason why Taher Shah became popular is because he stood out amidst the crowd.

His video’s utter lack of aesthetics, the English lyrics with bad grammar, pronunciation and sentence structure, his curly long hair which he flipped flamboyantly, his make-up and those unforgettable blue lenses that pierced into the camera became a laughing stock for the entire nation.

We do love quirky personalities. In a nation where we lament bomb victims every now and then, where we freeze to death without gas in winters and melt in the smoldering summers without electricity,  where every day is an uphill struggle, such quirky personalities distract us from our struggles and add color to our dull lives.

Amongst these Qandeel Baloch, Veena Malik, Meera and sometimes even mullahs like Junaid Jamshed and Amir Liaquat have stood out.

But sometimes we go too far. We see negativity in things that aren’t so negative.

Taher Shah’s songs are neither salacious nor abusive nor are they discriminating against anyone. He only speaks about love, angels and children.

Both of his videos give a positive message. But we fail to see that because we judge too quickly.

We do not see the good, only the bad. We ignore the positivity but latch on to what’s negative.

Featured in a lush green area with a lake and trees, his latest video promotes nothing but peace for the entire mankind.

He explains it in his blog and writes: “In the most important symbol of almighty God is that Mankind is truly an “Angel” himself, the only thing is that he has to analyze himself and search for the “Angel” in his own conscience.”

Such a profound meaning – we should analyze ourselves and realize that deep down inside man is not all that bad.

We should learn to accept others as they are. This will make us more tolerant towards those who are different from us.

Although Taher Shah might be deemed as a weirdo with his dress robes and angel wings. But so what!

Live, let live. Don’t hate.

We are too consumed with hatred. Maybe it’s time we let go.
