Today Pakistani society is riddled with the menace of intolerance in all facets of life in general and in religious beliefs in particular. There is a need that we seek guidance from our Holy Book Quran which emphasizes respect for humanity and human rights. Those involved in violence in the name of religion are not our friends but our foe as they are distorting the true picture of Islam which preaches love, tolerance and respect for others. Each one of us must make an effort to spread the feelings of love, tolerance and religious harmony. Media can play an important role by introducing measures to promote religious harmony by highlighting the commonalities of beliefs between various sects and religion. The most important of them is that no religion or belief supports atrocities against humanity. Madeeha Dar, August 10.
