LAHOREAll Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) President Hameed Haroon and Human Rights Watch (HRW) Pakistan Director Ali Dayan Hassan on Wednesday appeared before the Judicial Commission investigating the murder of journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad. The Commission headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar of Supreme Court recorded their respective statements and perused record of the e-mails of the deceased journalist, days before his murder. In the e-mails the deceased had expressed his concern about threats to his life and the e-mails had been found correct, said Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Pervez Shaukat while talking to media men after the commission concluded proceedings of the day at Lahore registry of the SC. He said the Commission will take more time to complete its investigations as many selected senior journalists were not available in the country. Commission in its next hearing may record statements of journalist Najam Sethi and widow of the deceased journalist, he added. Replying to a question, Pervez. Shaukat said FIA had submitted its report about cell phone record of the deceased, however, it did not decode his e-mails so far due to non-availability of passwords. Responding to another query, he said the Commission was working independently and fearlessly under the supervision of a sitting judge of the apex court and there was no pressure from any quarter. Next hearing of the five-member Commission will be held in the coming week, however, venue will be decided with the availability of Justice Nisar, he added. Besides Pervez Shaukat, Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Agha Rafiq and Punjab IGP Javed Iqbal attended the Wednesdays proceedings. Another member Islamabad IGP Binyamin and Commissions Secretary Taimur Azmat could not join the proceedings.
