LAHORE With the 65th Independence Day of Pakistan just three days away, Lahore, the city of Zinda Dilan, has turned green with national flags and buntings all around. The government and private buildings and houses are being illuminated, and residents are busy hoisting national flags on rooftops of their houses. The City District Government has also speeded up the repairing process of streetlights. The Lahorites, especially youth and children are seen enthusiastically busy to purchase buntings and badges and also beautifying their motorbikes and bicycles with special stickers inscribed with Independence Day messages. Printer Press and makers of Independence Day related items are also looking too much busy to meet the demand of the people. Although the city police have announced to deploy 10,000 contingents on the occasion to avoid any mishap or to deter the motorbike rallies but the youth are more zealous to hold the rallies. The major two rallies, one from Lahore Airport and the other from Siddiq Trade Center to Liberty Roundabout, are expected. Ali Hasan, a student of NCA who planned to participate in the motorbike rally with his friends said that he waited Independence Day for a year as he had special gathering with friends to participate in motorbike rally. Everyone is frustrated due to routine life, the motorbike rally is just fun to provide relief to ourselves, he said and added that the government should allow motorbike rallies so they could perform this healthy activity. Besides this, the prominent ceremonies will be held on the premises of the Wahgah Border, the WAPDA House, the Railway Headquarters and the Town Hall. Exhibitions, folk -music programs, stage shows and speech competitions are also being organized by various organizations to mark the day. Social, literary, religious and sports organizations will also arrange seminars, speeches, games and other activities in connection with this day. The Punjab Auqaf Department has announced a program to celebrate the Independence Day. Almost all public and private educational institutions seem busy to finalize the preparations regarding their programs. The University of Punjab is holding a flag hoisting ceremony in front of Administration Block to mark the day. On the occasion, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran will hoist the national flag and address the participants. The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has evolved a plan to celebrate the countrys Independence Day. The PEF partner schools will arrange special programmes in connection with Pakistan Day celebrations including holding of tableau shows, national songs, drawing and quiz competitions and declamation contests.
