MULTAN - The Health Department has launched a survey under National TB Control Programme to confirm exact number of TB patients in the country, disclosed Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Inamul Haq. Addressing a press conference here at Civil Hospital on Wednesday, Dr Haq said that initially six teams had been formed for the survey that would start their work in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the teams would conduct survey at district, tehsil and union council level. He told the journalists that three union councils of Multan including Guldeen Colony, Basti Malook and Jalalpur Pirwala were selected for the survey. He disclosed that 66000 TB patients were detected and treated in Multan district last year. He said that the pilot project of TB survey would help assess the ratio of TB patients in the society. Citing statistics, he said that 261 out of every one lac citizens were suffering from TB. He revealed that it was for the first time since 1986 that any survey was being held to confirm the number of TB patients. He said that blood samples of residents of selected union councils would be taken and sent for lab examination. He said that the survey would help locate such pockets where this deadly disease existed. He said that TB was a curable disease and its course was eight month long. He said that the TB Control Programme was functional in Punjab for the last eight years under which facilities like tests and medicines were offered free of cost to the patients. He urged upon the masses to cooperate with the survey teams to make the survey successful. The Coordinator for National TB Control Programme South Punjab Dr. arshad Shamsi was also present on this occasion. Madni Dastarkhwan to stay: Chief Organizer of Chief Minister Madni Dastarkhwan Programme Haji Muhammad Nawaz disclosed on Wednesday that the programme would be extended after Ramazan as offering food to a hungry person is a great virtue. Addressing a meeting held to review the programme in Multan division, he said that the Madni Dastarkhwans were initiated on special direction of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to offer iftari to the deserving fasting citizens. He said that the citizens benefited a lot from the programme in entire province. The Commissioner Multan division Muhammad Khurram Agha told the meeting on this occasion that a total of 33 Dastar Khwans were functional in Multan division out of which 27 were established in Multan, two Khanewal, one Lodhran and three Vehari. He added that 22 mechanical tandoors were also working in Multan where 176 atta bags were supplied daily.
