7 killed, more than 20 injured in Peshawar twin blasts

At least seven persons including four police personnel and a child were killed and more than 20 others injured in twin acts of terrorism including a suicide blast at police check post and a planted bomb blast near police van here in Peshawar on Thursday. According to police two female suicide bombers blew themselves up at police check post in Lahori Gate area during search. Resultantly both female suicide bombers were killed and two persons present nearby the scene of the blast sustained wounds. In yet another incident in the same area a remote-controlled bomb exploded near a police vehicle. As a result of explosion five people including four police officials were killed on the spot while more than 20 others sustained wounds. The police and rescue personnel rushed to the scene of the incident and started rescue operation. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for treatment and according to hospital sources condition of some among the injured was serious. Heavy contingent of police and other law enforcement agencies launched search for the culprits after placing strict cordon off but no arrest has been made. The police said that the bomb was hidden in hand driven cart and according to Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) some 8kg explosives was used in the blast. A senior police official Imtiaz Khan said the truck that was hit was carrying police constables heading to start their shift for the day. He said four police officers and a passer-by were killed in the blast, while some of the wounded were listed in a critical condition. No group claimed responsibility, but authorities have blamed the Pakistani Taliban for previous such attacks. The city has endured numerous bombings in recent years, many of them aimed at security forces and government officials.
