PESHAWAR - As many as 21 persons were killed when an unmanned US predator targeted a compound and a moving vehicle by firing two missiles in Gora Qabristan area of North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday. Sources said that that the drone launched the attack in wee hours of Wednesday morning, when local people were busy for making arrangements for Sehri. Compound of the targeted building was completely destroyed as a result of the attack leaving all the inmates living inside the compound dead. Soon after the attacks, a large number of people rushed to the site and recovered the dead bodies from the damage house. The local people said that the killed persons were from the Haqqani network along with some foreign militants. The areas is reported a stronghold of militants from where they used to supply their armed groups to launch attacks on both sides of the border. One of the security officials told this correspondent that the area where the attack was launched is a suspected compound of Haqqani network where some foreign militants were also present. Although the United States does not publicly confirm drone attacks, its military and the CIA in Afghanistan are the only forces that deploy the armed, unmanned drones in the region. The Haqqani network is considered the most dangerous enemy of US troops in eastern Afghanistan. It was founded by Jalaluddin Haqqani and is run by his son, Sirajuddin, both designated as leading war lords in the area. Some Pakistani officials put the death toll at 18 but acknowledged that more bodies were being dug out of the rubble. The officials said a pick-up vehicle parked outside the compound was also destroyed. The vehicle was hit minutes after it reached the house. It looks like the drone was chasing it. One missile hit the vehicle and another hit the house. Four militants sitting in the vehicle were also killed, the local sources said. It is worth mentioning here that around 23 attacks have been launched since May 2 incident in which al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden was targeted.
