RAWALPIDNI - Police filed a case against the accused who killed six persons of a family, besides injuring many others, by resorting to indiscriminate firing over a petty dispute in Gulistan Colony and arrested seven persons.

According to details, a shootout between two groups has resulted in the deaths of six people, four of them brothers, here on wee hours of Friday.

According to media reports, a spat during a Jirga (a meeting of family elders to decide disputes) in Rawalpindi’s Gulistan Colony went so out of control that firearms came into play and five men dropped dead before anything could be done.

The firing also left one person critically injured, who later died in the hospital.

It was later revealed that the disputants were fighting over land.

Police registered murder case under section 302/324/148/149 and 7 Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) on the complaint of one Junaid Qureshi son of Javed Qureshi, resident of Gulistan Colony, Street Number 3, here on Friday. Station House Officer (SHO) PS Civil Line Raja Shakeel was appointed as Investigation Officer of the case.

According to contents of the application, filed by Junaid, taking action on which police filed case, a brawl occurred between Abdul Rehman and Waheed Qureshi in Ayub Park during a football match.

Later, a person of other party Sagheer called us to hold a meeting at Mohala Shah Chan Chirag for settlement the dispute, the applicant mentioned adding that he along with a delegation comprised his father Javed Qureshi, uncles Aurangzeb Qureshi and Pervez Qureshi, cousins Salman Qureshi and Adnan Qureshi, Nadeem Qureshi, Safeer Qureshi, Arshad Nazir, Zaheer Abbas, Yaqoob and Muhammad Shabbir.

He added that as they reached near the place where meeting was due, a gang of their opponents including Ijaz Qureshi, Khurram Kiyani, Umer Qureshi, Tanveer Abbas, Ali, Zohaib, Fiaz Qureshi, Bilal, Shakeel, Sagheer, Jahangir, who were already sitting in a hide out and loaded with Kalashnikovs and pistols, started indiscriminate firing on us soon after seeing.

In result, Nadeem Qureshi, Pervez Qureshi, Adnan Qureshi, Salman Qureshi, Aurangzab Qureshi and Javed Qureshi fell on ground. Later they killed while traveling towards hospital because of multiple bullet injuries. In this armed assault, Zaheer Abbas and Yaqoob injured critically, Junaid added in the application.

According to him, the rest members of delegation hardly escaped from the deadliest attack while the killers managed to flee from the crime scene.

He prayed to the police to register a murder case against the accused. Police, taking action, took up a case and started investigation.

A Naib Moherer of PS Civil Line informed this scribe that so far 7 persons were arrested in connection with the murder case.

However, SHO PS Civil Line Raja Shakeel could not be approached immediately for his comments.

Sources in police revealed that a number of police raiding parties have been constituted to nab the fleeing killers. Raids on various places were being carried out, they added.
