QUETTA - A District and Sessions Judge Jaffarabad awarded two-year jail sentence, besides a fine of Rs 0.5m, to former speaker Balochistan Assembly Mir Zahoor Hussain Khosa on Friday in a fake degree case.

Mir Zahoor Hussain Khosa was elected member of Balochistan Assembly as an independent candidate in general elections 2008 on a degree of religious seminary. His degree was challenged in the court. The Supreme Court had declared his degree fake and unseated him, besides directing the Election Commission for registering a case of forgery against him.

The case was registered in Jaffarabad Police Station and the police had submitted the challan in District and Sessions Court Jaffarabad.

Announcing judgment, the learned court awarded Zahoor Khosa two years imprisonment besides a fine of Rs. 0.5m.It may be recalled that this is the first case in which a former MPA has been awarded punishment. 

Cabinet Special Committee visits Quetta:?The Cabinet Special Committee on Balochistan headed by Federal Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar will pay a one-day visit to Quetta on Saturday.

It will be the first visit of the Committee to Balochistan after its formation. However, the Committee has already met Governor Balochistan Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and CM M Aslam Raisani in Karachi and Islamabad.

During the visit in Quetta, the Committee is expected to meet Speaker Balochistan Assembly Muhammad Aslam Bhootani, leaders of various political parties and other stakeholders.

The Balochistan Assembly Speaker M Aslam Bhootani will host an Iftar-dinner for the visitors and present his point of view on the Balochistan problems.

Sources said that the key purpose of forming this committee was to talk with political leaders and stakeholders in Balochistan to prepare recommendations, and later the Federal government in the light of these recommendations would take steps for the solution of Balochistan’s problems.
