NOORPUR THAL – Some of the development schemes under taken here could not be completed within stipulated time due to paucity of funds and other contributory factors, sources told The Nation.

The mega project of Greater Thal Canal (GTC) has been delayed due to paucity of funds, although phase-I of the project has been completed but phase-II could not be completed still due to lack of funds from the Ministry of Water and Power.

The Nation also learnt that some politicians were also opposing the completion of this mega project.

Social workers Advocate Malik Tahir Mehmood Ghanjira, Advocate Raja Muhammad Ashraf Hayat, Haji Noor Gul Khan and PML-N local leader Malik Aziz Hussain Jara expressed grave concern over the inordinate delay in the completion of the mega project, urging the government to remove all the hurdles in the way of timely completion of the project in the large interest of farmers of Thal.

The Greater Thal Canal project had been started in 2001 and its phase-I had been completed in 2008. According to Farmers Welfare Association, the mega project of GTC is very essential for the prosperity of the desert areas.

The PML-N local leaders Malik Muhammad Khalid Awan, Advocate Malik Aziz Hussain Jara, Malik Manzoor Ahmad Bagga and Malik Nasir Ali Gujar were also present on the occasion.

He lamented that the present regime had played havoc with the Constitution and democracy and none of the key issues had been resolved in the last 65 years. He said it was unfortunate to see the rulers running from pillar to post to run the country. Malik Shakir said that the PML-N had the panacea for all the problems facing the country.
