Kite string slits youth’s throat


LAHORE – A 25-year-old motorcyclist was wounded seriously when the string of a stray kite slit his throat in the Islampura area, police and rescue workers said.
Hospital sources said the condition of the youth, later identified as Muhammad Omar, was out of danger and he was being provided medical treatment at the intensive care unit.
A resident of Abdali Road, Omar was riding a motorcycle and was on his way home when suddenly the string of a stray kite slit his throat in the Krishan Nagar area. The youth sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital by rescue workers. The police are investigating.
VALUABLES GUTTED: Fabric and valuables worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes in two different incidents in the City on Friday.
Firefighters said machinery, furniture and other valuables were gutted when fire erupted in the steel unit of one Tahir Shehzad situated on Band Road near Karol Ghati. Rescue workers rushed to the spot soon after the incident and managed to put out the fire.
In another incident, fabric worth Rs2 million was reduced to ashes when fire broke out in the shop of one Shaukat Shahzad on Multan Road in the Raiwind area. Rescue workers said the fire broke out because of short-circuiting and also engulfed two adjacent shops within no time. Further investigations were underway.
Seven held: The police claimed on Friday to have arrested at least seven alleged drug peddlers and recovered a heavy consignment of liquor from their possession.
The arrested men were identified as ringleader Muhammad Azeem and his six accomplices, namely Pervaiz Akhtar, Naveed Ahmed, Arshad, Arif, Aslam and Shahbaz. Masti Gate Police recovered 3,190 bottles of liquor from their possession. Police have started investigation.
