KARACHI – Sindh Minister for Archives Muhammad Rafique Engineer has assured the workers of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) that the funds for their salaries disbursement would be released soon.The KMC Workers Union and People’s United Workers Union (PUWU) representatives called on the provincial minister at his office to discuss the issue of their outstanding salaries. PUWU President Inayatullah Baloch and KMC Sajjan (CBA) Syed Zulfikar Shah were also present.The minister contacted Sindh Finance Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch and asked him to immediately release Octroi Zilla Tax (OZT) Grant so that workers could be paid their wages. He also contacted the Agha Siraj Durrani, Minister for Local Government, who assured him to solve their problem on priority.The union leaders told the minister that government had slashed the OZT grant by 30 percent to 40 that delayed salaries of thousands of DMC South employees for three months.In many be noted that Karachi Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed had said that the decision to raise government employees salaries by 20 percent would require KMC another Rs.125 to 150 million. He maintained that a detailed request in this connection had already been submitted to the Finance Department but to no avail so far.
