LAHORE – The Punjab Public Accounts Committee (PAC-1) has directed the Police Department to make police motor workshops operational in all districts of the province to avert the losses to the provincial kitty because of the maintenance of police vehicles at private workshops.

The Committee’s meeting on Friday reviewed audit paras of the Police Department with Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din in the chair, and members Rana Abdul Rehman and Yawar Zaman in the attendance.

The PAC-1 also directed the Police Department to make standard operating procedures (SoPs) for the working of the police motor workshops in all the districts, besides deputing an officer with hiring and firing authority to oversee the operation of these workshops.

The PAC-1 further directed the Police Department to constitute a special cell for the utilisation of funds in a transparent manner, besides implementing the directions of the committee in letter and spirit.

Also, the committee directed the additional inspector general (welfare and finance) to get approval of the quality of a vehicle from independent experts rather than its manufacturers.
