SARGODHA - A suspect involved in scores of heinous crimes was killed in a police shootout in the remits of Shahpur police during the wee hours of Friday. He was identified as Asif alias Aasu Awan.
According to police sources, farmer Ghulam Abbas, a resident of Bakhar Bar, was on his way to home on a motorcycle from his outhouse. At Pull Nullah Chachar Road, two armed men intercepted him and snatched his motorcycle on gunpoint and fled away.
However, a police party led by SHO Shahpur Sadar Inspector Amjid Jalal started following the accused. The dacoits opened fire on the police and the police also retaliated. As a result, Asif of Jauharabad was killed while his accomplice managed to escape.
The police seized a Kalashnikov and some bullets lying near the body.
The official record have revealed that he was a paying killer and wanted to Sillanwali police for murdering patron-in-chief Sarafa Association Haji Ghulam Rasool during a dacoity bid in June 2011 and was also wanted in several other murder, dacoity-cum-murder, and vehicle snatching cases.
