ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Planning and central leader of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N, Ahsan Iqbal, on Sunday criticised PTI Chief Imran Khan for his being adamant to hold his what he described as ‘destruction march’ on August 14.
Addressing a press conference here at the Convention Centre here, he apologized to the nation for barricades causing inconvenience to the citizens, but insisted the government was duty-bound to maintain peace in the country and held the protestors responsible for difficulties being faced by the citizens as a result of demonstrations.
He said that Imran Khan and Tahir ul Qadri are two sides of one coin and both were bent upon causing destruction in the country. He claimed that both were hatching up a conspiracy against the democracy and Pakistan Army.
“Why August 14 when a protest demonstration can be held any other day,” Ahsan Iqbal wondered. He said the government is going to launch on Monday the long march of development by unveiling Vision-2025. He justified the imposition of restrictions, saying that had the government not taken these measures, there could have been riots in Lahore.
“Workers of PAT want to spread violence and anarchy,” he said, forcing the people to take such measures. He said that Pakistan’s army believes in supremacy of law and constitution.
He said that Chief of Army Staff has clearly stated that Pakistan Army was loyal to constitution and committed to democracy in the country.
