rawalpindi - The Anti-Narcotics Force has seized a huge quantity of drugs and arrested 24 persons, including a foreigner, during action taken against drug mafia in the country, informed ANF spokesman Samiullah on Monday.
According to him, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) carried out 14 operations in various cities and recovered 32-kg heroin, 90-kg hashish and 2,100 litres acetic anhydride (a prohibited material). The operations also resulted in arrest of 24 persons, including a Nigerian national, and seizure of 9 vehicles, he said adding that the worth of recovered drugs is approximately Rs 436 million in international market.
He said that ANF Rawalpindi on a tip-off intercepted a car (BA-542) near Kohinoor Mills on GT Road and recovered 6-kg heroin from it. Two persons on board, Umair Khan and a Nigerian national Celestine, were taken into custody.
Similarly, the ANF acting on a tip-off raided a house in Lane Number 9, Gulistan Colony, and apprehended 4 drug suppliers namely Muhammad Nooh Khan, Sohail Irshad, Wajahat Manzoor and Wajahat Ahmed. Some 8-kg heroin was recovered from their possession.
Separately, an action in Pirwadhai area of Rawalpindi led to arrest of two smugglers and recovery of 1-kg heroin and 2-kg hashish, the spokesman said. A total of 1.2-kg hashish was also recovered from a car at Kallar Syedan Chowk.
In another raid, the ANF Lahore captured a car (LWQ-5907) near Kalma Chowk and recovered 11.8-kg heroin from it. Three drug carriers namely Salman Khan, Naseeb Khan and Muhammad Shafiq Afridi were held.
Similarly the ANF conducted several operations in Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi and seized huge quantity of narcotics, besides arresting smugglers. Cases have been registered against the accused while further investigation is under way, the spokesman concluded.
