LAHORE - The Lahore High Court has given the custody of a minor girl to her Malaysian mother after recovering the two and half years old from her Pakistani grandmother.

As the hearing started on Monday, the petitioner, Areha Eman, and her in-laws appeared in the courtroom. The judge tried his best to make peace between both parties but in vain.

The grandmother told the judge that the baby girl was not ready to go with her mother. However, if Eman could stay with the family in Faisalabad for some days, the baby girl could agree returning Malaysia with her mother.

However, the judge ordered the lady to handover the girl to her mother.

Areha Eman, a Malaysian mother, had filed the petition for the recovery of her minor from the illegal custody of her Pakistani in-laws who had brought her for a meeting with relatives.

Eman had filed the petition for the recovery of her daughter from the custody of her Pakistani in-laws who had brought her for a meeting with relatives.

Wearing a head cover in traditional Malaysian style, Areha was happy to get the custody of her daughter Arifa.

“I’m very happy to get my baby back,” she told this scribe.

Eman married Moaz Khalid, resident of Ulu Tiram Johar, Malaysia, on July 31, 2012. In March last year, Moaz’s mother Muniza Khalid reached her and asked to give her the minor girl, promising that she would bring her back to Malaysia after a meeting with other family members in Pakistan.

Areha had submitted that more than one year has passed but Muniza was not bringing her back to Malaysia. Few days back she came to Pakistan and went to the house of Muniza in Faisalabad. But unfortunately, they did not let her meet her daughter rather misbehaved with her, she lamented.

According to Eman, she also approached the police station concerned for help but the police refused to register an FIR. She said they were asking for a court direction to proceed for recovery of the girl.

Before the court, she claimed to be the natural guardian of her daughter according to the Pakistani family laws.

Last Thursday, she had requested the court to recover her daughter from illegal confinement of her in-laws and grant Eman her permanent custody.
