BAHAWALNAGAR

A couple and their two minor daughters sustained severe burns in an acid throwing attack late the other night.

The police arrested the accused after the Regional Police Officer took notice of the incident.

Ahmad Hassan Joyia wanted to develop illicit relations with Shahnaz Bibi, wife Pervaiz, a resident of Madina Town, Bahawalnagar. Shahnaz, however, refused to do so. Disappointed over the woman’s refusal, Joyia along with his accomplice Rasheed alias Sheeda barged into the woman’s house. They sprinkled acid on the family members who were sound asleep.

As a result, Pervaiz, his wife Shahnaz and two minor daughters - five-year-old Areej Fatima and six-year-old Nimra received critical burns. Listening to hue and cry, neighbours and locals gathered on the spot and shifted the injured to DHQ hospital Bahawalnagar.

As soon as electronic media highlighted the incident, Bahawalpur RPO Ehsan Sadiq took the notice. He ordered immediate arrest of accused Ahmad Hassan Joyai and two other accomplices.

The City ‘A’ Division Police registered a case No 349/15, under Section 336-B/7-ATA (Anti-Terrorism Act) and started further investigation. Later Shahnaz was referred to a Burn Centre in Lahore due to her critical condition. Her husband and daughters are said to be stable.
