LAHORE - A rescue worker was electrocuted and two others wounded critically when a high-voltage wire collapsed on a firefighting vehicle in Iqbal Town during the downpour yesterday.

The vehicle caught fire and badly damaged in the incident which took place near Omar Park in Iqbal Town. Police identified the deceased as 40-yar-old Mudassar, who expired on the spot. The injured workers were shifted to a hospital in critical condition.

All the three rescue workers were on patrol in the residential locality when the wires fell on their vehicle. Local residents said the incident took place because of negligence on part of the Lahore electric supply company. Authorities were investigating the incident.

At least four people have already lost their lives in similar incidents in different parts of the provincial metropolis during this monsoon season.

Woman found slaughtered

A 32-year-old woman was found murdered from a residential quarter located in Charrar village near Defense Housing Authority yesterday. The husband of the lady was at large, police said.

Investigators say they believe the woman, identified as Shazia Nazim, was stabbed to death. An official said the lady was stabbed and slaughtered with a sharp-edge weapon.

Locals alerted the police after noticing foul smell emitting from the quarter. The police reached the spot and removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy.

Asghar Gujjar, the house owner, told the investigators that Nazim Hussain took the quarter on rent a few months ago and he along with his wife was residing in the quarter.

Police sources said the husband was at large since the killing took place. The police have registered a murder case and are investigating with no arrest made yet.
