Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked the returned candidates who won more than one seat of the national and provincial assemblies in the general elections to retain one seat and resign from others.
The commission has advised all such candidates to tender their resignation before taking a seat in the National Assembly or provincial assemblies.
ECP is all set to issue the final list of party position in recently held polls while it will also release notification pertaining to allotment of special seats to the political parties.
The election commission had already uploaded the notice under the article 51 of the constitution that independent candidates had to join any political party within three days of issuance of notification of successful candidates.
The PTI emerged as the largest party by winning 116 seats against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif s Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) and former President Asif Zardari s Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) which won 64 and 43 seats.
