ISLAMABAD (APP) - A cultural fair depicting the traditions of people of Upper Hunza valley (Vakhi culture) Thursday enthralled the visitors here at Lok Virsa Shakar Parian. It has been organised to revive the culture of Vakhai civilization of Hunza valley. This five-day fair was inaugurated by Norwegian Ambassador to Pakistan. Basically Vakhai nation of Upper Hunza valley (Gojal) belongs to Afghanistans city Vakhan and more then 100,000 people worldwide share this tradition. Vakhai people live in Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Chinas province Sankiyan. In Pakistan they are settled in upper Hanza and Chitral. Before this fair no such activity was taken for the revival of this rare culture either by Government or at private sector level. The credit of organizing this activity for the first time goes to present government for the revival of this culture. Vakhai Hind is a part of Irani civilization,they speak Vakhai language. According to traditions they embraced Islam by the preaching of Peer Shah Nasir Khusrau. The Vakhai participants of the fair expressed their gratitude to the present government which has provided them an opportunity to present their cultural traditions to people. They said that Vakhai culture is not only about singing and dancing, the embroidery and other works done by the Vakhi artisans are remarkable, if this practice continues and the government continues to conduct such fairs every year the young generation will always be aware of their traditions. At Lok Virsa nine stalls have been arranged to give people awareness about Vakhai culture. Different cultural and traditional units have appreciated the effort of organising one of the countrys interesting cultural fair at Lok Virsa.
