KARACHI - More than two months have been lapsed of the agreement made between CDGK and Drug Free Pakistan Foundation (DFP) to establish the treatment and rehabilitation centre of drug addicts in two CDGK hospitals but so far neither any centre can be established nor practical measures are being taken in this regard, The Nation has learnt. It may be noted that the EDO Health of CDGK, Dr AD Sanjnani, DO preventive Dr Amanullah Sheikh, DO Social Welfare Zarfishan and other officers of City government had visited the Drug Free Pakistan (DFP). The Provincial Local Bodies Minister Agha Siraj, on Wednesday, had announced that on December 31, the tenure of the present local government in the province would be completed and caretaker government would take the charge for 90 days. Thus, it would be better that in the remaining tenure of the City government that the treatment and rehabilitation centre to be established in the two CDGK hospitals so that the treatment of drug addicts can be done successfully. The president DFPF Muhammad Naveed Younus, when contacted said that the time was running out as far as the establishment of rehabilitation centre in the City governments hospitals is concerned. But he was hopeful that the CDGK officers would follow the directives of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal. It may be noted that Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had already been signed between the CDGK and DFPF for the establishment of rehabilitation centres for drug addicts. The agreement also depicts about providing 51 acres land for DFPF for establishing a separate hospital for drug addicts but no action has been taken so far on the implementation on MoU. The CDGK hospitals including Memon Goth Hospital and Ibrahim Hyderi Hospital were reviewed the possibility to develop rehabilitation centres in the aforementioned hospitals. The DFPF is working against the drug addiction since long and providing free treatment and rehabilitation to thousands of drug addicts. Younus applauded the role of City nazim and cooperation about developing the rehabilitation centres in CDGK hospitals and allocation of plot for these centres. He regretted that not a single measure has been taken till date to implement on MoU.
