ISLAMABAD (APP) Bank of Punjab (BoP) former president Hamesh Khan has been arrested in America by US Department of Justice, reported a private TV channel on Thursday. US Department of Justice has informed Pakistan about his arrest. The government of Pakistan had contacted Interpol for the arrest of Hamesh Khan following which the arrest has been made. Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed to issue arrest warrant for Hamesh Khan and his son in Rs9billion BoP loan scam, owner of Haris Steel and his son Haris Afzal, industrialist Seth Yaqoob and his daughter Irum yaqoob. Their assets had already been frozen. Hamesh Khan is accused of causing the bank losses worth more than Rs9billion. The BoP had granted a loan of Rs9bilion to the Haris Steel Industries (HSI) without fulfilling the legal requirements and the HSI had consequently defaulted on the loan. The bank had then filed a petition against HSI.
